a note

Pearce Barnes has been making film since the 6th grade. What started out as a hobby has blossomed into a genuine passion that he takes lots of pride in. As his age, experience, and skills increased, Pearce began taking the hobby more seriously, conducting some paid work and working on larger scale productions. An example of the latter included his first “professional” short film, “Crazy for Laynes” (2024), which was juried into over 8 film festivals. This body of work involved over 6 months of total work, where Pearce took on the burdens of scripting, casting, location negotiation, set design, directing, cinematic directing, musical design, and editing, all of which done with minimal help. This film is a testament to Pearce’s holistic filmmaking abilities, showcasing his start-to-end competency. Though his journey began in the 6th grade under Mr. Corbin Doyle, Pearce is continuing his exploration of film at UNC.
